Introducing our Market Children

Market Images

Recently we have had some great markets, with a guest stall from the Cheese Festival , the Artisan Hub is a business from Auckland and they were able to introduce some great artisan cheeses, and also one market where we nearly got blown away. A huge thanks goes out to the many that helped with flying and collapsing gazebos, we could have had an injury without some quick thinking from all those involved.

What else is happening?

We are bringing back the children's play area, as we can now stretch out into better terrain we can return the children's area with tables and games.

We are introducing a new stall Flaxbourne Olive Oil, this oil is produced in Ward, it is grown and pressed on their estate, making it a truly single estate, supreme oil (see below).

Long Acre will be taking a break this weekend, along also with Snail House Bakery

Pedro will be at the market this Sunday with his yummy empanadas. If you want something sweet l have spiced apple  with maple syrup, walnuts and currants.

Minghetties will be attending, along with Macroon, Boom and Caked by Caitlin

3 Cats is back with their amazing display of jams and chutneys, coming up with new ones regularly, recently I have tasted Pear Vinegar (I made a great vinaigrette) and Kumera and Banana Chutney (worked perfectly with my curry)

She Shed will be on the community stall with plenty of popular tomato plants and more

This Labour Weekend market we welcome back busker Chris Matthews, he has played solo and in bands for some 30 odd years. He plays guitar and sings pop and country rock songs from the 70s up to todays hits. Weddings, pubs and xmas functions is what he's previously have done.

Flaxbourne Olive Oil

The olive oil is produced here on our estate in Ward. We are a Single Estate producer of extra virgin olive oil. This means that we only use the olives that we grow here ourselves. So we completely know what the trees have been treated with throughout the season. We grow eight varieties and we harvest and press the olives, and bottle the oil.

Fruit 4 You

Check out the range of pressed fruit juice from Lowes Orchard! From our sweet-tangy Pink Lady apple juice, to our blend of Apple & Boysenberry, and our new limited edition Pear juice, we have something for everyone. Tree ripened fruit gives the juice its sweet flavour, with no added sugar or artificial preservative, this juice makes for the ultimate sweet treat on hot days!

Mississippi Herbs
At this time of year, last season's parsley plants will be shooting up and going to seed. While there are still leaves to pick, there will come a time when there is nothing but seed heads. If you plant a new parsley now, this will give it time to establish and avoid the dreaded gap in supply. Mississippi Herbs has good supplies of both curly and flat leaf parsley. This is also a good plant for children to grow as it's easy to care for - tolerates a range of situations and not too demanding as to soil.

Garden Bees

As well as honey in all sizes, GB's have straws and honey bears for a healthy treat

SharpAS tool tip

A question I am asked is whether I can sharpen the blades on machines for chipping up prunings or garden waste. Pictured is the grinding machine to do this job as well as many other types of work. If you have anything that needs sharpening, see me at the market on Sunday or contact me on 0274445535   cheers Ron

Golden Mile

Golden Mile Produce has stunning fresh lettuces available this Sunday to really kick off those sunny salad feeling days. With our lettuces if you pop them in a vase or bowl with a little water in the bottom (not enough to touch the leaves) and pop them somewhere cool out of the hot sun (but not in the fridge) they will stay fresh for days. Just refresh the water every day or so. Pull off leaves as desired, rinse and use for fresh crunchy goodness!

Make sure to check out Stephen's latest surprise, our colourful brocciflower are harvesting. The texture of a cauliflower but the green of a broccoli, YUM. And YES strawberries have started. The fruit is picking big, juicy and delicious. Sales start from 9.00am.
