This Week

Golden Mile

Here comes the sun so what better time to crack into some fresh crunch of salads. We will have lovely lettuce, salad greens, broccoli as well as our regular products.

Can't wait to make a household favourite now it's more like salad season!

Broccoli Salad

Mix in a large bowl;

8 cups raw Broccoli florets (stalks can be grated or finely chopped)

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1 small red onion finely diced

1/3 cup Pinoli pinenuts (or sunflower seeds or nuts)

1/2 cup bacon bits (or a couple of pieces of bacon cooked until crispy & finely chopped)

In a separate bowl whisk together until smooth,

3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 & 1/2 tablespoons sugar

1 cup good mayonnaise (we prefer homemade)

A good few grinds of salt & pepper

Pour the dressing over the vege & toss well.

Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

This makes enough for about 8 serves, so recipe can be halved but the longer it chills the better it gets!

Can include raisins or other similar dried fruits that you have on hand.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Stephen

HOMEMADE.KIWI

Here we have tasty Plum and Apple Fruit Leathers made with NZ Honey from Garden Bees and Plums from Windsong Orchard.

Free soup tasting this week (if the wind doesn't blow us away again!) is Pumpkin & Tomato, an elegant soup with delicious flavors.

See you Sunday, Alys

SharpAs Tool Tips

When you buy new tools many are no longer pre-sharpened and ready to use. Take a look at this new spade brought in for sharpening. The "sharp edge" was a hefty 2mm thick!

After precision grinding and sharpening, this spade is now ready for action.

It's worth noting that many gardening tools are being sold unsharpened these days for safety reasons.

So, if you have any garden, woodwork tools, utensils, knives, or anything else that needs a SharpAs edge come and see me at the market or contact me on 0274445535.

Cheers, Ron.

Lowes Orchard

This will be the final weekend for the lovely Che-Ko apples, so get along this weekend for the final taste of the season.

We also have our apple special- just $2/kg- continuing on with Pac Queen and Splendour apples varieties.

And our legendary vine ripened green kiwifruit is getting into the final few weeks so don't miss out!

Sigrun will be back with Swiss Chard.

What does Swiss Chard taste like?

It’s not quite as intense as kale. Swiss chard becomes a pleasant, tender green when cooked. It pairs well with an acid like lemon or lime and a bit of salt (like pecorino or parmesan).

The stalks are mild and taste more like celery, delicious when cooked with garlic. I like to blanch the stems and leaves, then stew them with sausages or meat cuts. The stems and leaves are also nice cooked with good quality oil, seasoning, garlic if you wish, or a pinch of nutmeg, until tender.

Garden Bees

Garden bees will have comb honey squares 340 to 355 grms.

For $14.00 per square,

Ps still a few 3 kg buckets for $30.00 left.

Verve Flowers

Verve are so happy to be back at the market with our Spring flowers. We’ve missed the buzz but have been busy with winter maintenance jobs and seeding and germinating all our summer crops. We look forward to showcasing the seasons with a constantly evolving palette of flowers. This week, we are showcasing Ranunculus, Poppies and Tulips. Just look at the colours and swoon! Look forward to bringing you happiness and beauty every Sunday.

Daltian Figgs, being at the  spring equinox now; when the autumnal equinox is here, the fig harvest should be in full flush

See you Sunday, 9 to noon, A&P showgrounds.
