Epilepsy New Zealand is our community stall

For over 65 years, Epilepsy New Zealand (ENZ) has been a non-profit organisation that supports

people living with epilepsy, their whānau and community. We also provide training for organisations

such as schools, workplaces etc... We do not charge for the services we provide. After a break of

some years, ENZ has once again an educator in this area. I started my role in November 2022. I am

trying to raise the profile of ENZ as people who need us are not aware that we are present in this

region. Having a stall at your farmers market will help raise awareness of ENZ and hopefully reach

more people.

Nelson Shroomery

We are Eden and Yanish, and we specialise in spreading the joy and benefits of gourmet mushrooms; whether it be buying fresh quality Pink or Grey oyster mushrooms grown at our Nelson-based farm, or having a crack at growing your own with our affordable and easy grow bags, perfect for anyone!

We're based in Atawhai, Nelson, and Yanish is originally from Belgium. He's been growing mushrooms for over 5 years now as a hobby, which is how he perfected his lab skills in cultivating mushroom cultures. He's always loved the taste of mushrooms since he was a child and always enjoys  trying new ones. Yannis spark to grow his own mushrooms came from when he read about how delicious Pink oyster mushrooms are but had no way to buy them in Europe.

Eden has a lot of experience growing pink oysters with grow kits as a hobby. She also loves to go foraging for all kinds of mushrooms in fall and spring.

When Yanish moved to New Zealand to be with Eden he finally had the space and help from Eden to grow on a commercial scale so we decided to take the leap and supply Nelson and Marlborough with the freshest and highest quality mushrooms possible.

We have a room we turned into a small laboratory to work on the mushroom cultures in a sterile environment and a big grow room with commercial humidifiers and an AC unit to get the temperature and CO² levels exactly right for the mushrooms to grow.

We have years of growing experience behind us, so come and chat with us anytime about anything mushroom-related, all questions are welcome! If you are looking for cooking inspiration, we provide a range of take-home recipes suited for all.

We are currently working on providing a larger range of mushroom varieties and grow kits, including New Zealand Lions Mane, Shiitake, and King Stropharia; so if that's what you're looking for expect them at our stall in the coming months!

Info Stall

We have the ATM operating for anyone wanting cash. We also have new flavours from eden Orchards - with the additions of plum, raspberry, and blackberry. Hogarth chocolate, black garlic and much more, including ice cold sparkling cherry juice ready to drink.

Everyone, even the market has plenty of zucchini at the moment, I made a picnic with Zucchini fritters , great hot or cold, and easy to make.

Zucchini Fritters

ZUCCHINI:

  • 500 g/1 lb zucchini (2 medium ~ 23cm/9" long)
  • 1 tsp salt

BATTER:

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 spring onions , finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup parmesan , grated
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or crushed fresh garlic, or pureed black garlic
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (I like the hot one, or just add a pinch of chilli powder)
  • 1/2 cup  flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • black pepper, a good grind
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

Grate the zucchini and mix in a good tsp of salt, put this in a colander with a weight on top and leave to drain for 15 mins. After this you can squeeze by hand to get more liquid out, don't squeeze in a t-towel as this makes it too dry.

Mix your batter ingredients together in a  bowl, and add the zucchini, you should have a thick batter without excess liquid.

Heat a pan with some oil, and put tablespoon size fritter in the pan and gently press down to flatten, fry the fritters till golden on each side.

Good with a salad for lunch, or great cold in a picnic.

Homemade Kiwi

Summer is finally here and so are our great dehydrated Smoothies. We have two flavours, "TROPICAL FRUIT" ,

a mixture of Pineapple, Orange, Mango, Apple, Banana and Chia Seeds and "GREEN GODDESS" which is also a tropical treat

with a perfect fruit-to-veggie ratio with mixed fruits, Spinach, Kale, Whey Protein Powder and Chia Seeds.

Both these Smoothies are packed with over 20 different vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Just add 2 or

more cups of liquid , fruit juice, milk or just water and blend.

Stay well & cool. See you Sunday, Alys

Windsong

With apricots hard to find in the valley these days it's handy to have Windsong Orchard's Luisa plums that cook up to a very apricot-like jam. Use one of their two kilo bags of seconds, stone the fruit and simmer till soft, bring to a roiling boil and add 1.5 kgs of sugar and juice of a lemon. Boil about 14 mins stirring occasionally and then start testing for set. So good!

Drop The Beet

New flavour alert ! Carrot, ginger, watermelon and orange. An absolutely refreshing delight. Come get a cup of bottle of this juicy goodness on Sunday. We will also have the usuals- Sweet Beet, Sunshine, Tropical, and a green option.

Golden Mile

Golden Mile Produce is excited to bring scrumptious rock melons to the market this Sunday. They are big on flavour, perfume and juice, just like you remember them from last year. Watermelons will be a week or so yet. There is some new seasons green chilies, cucumbers in all shapes and colours, including a yellow heirloom one and our little lunchbox ones, have you tried them yet? New seasons garlic was a BIG hit last weekend. We will have lots of fresh greens, beans and zucchinis. Kamokamo is harvesting beautifully. It's an underrated vegetable, as not everyone is familiar with it, so I challenge you to give it a go. It's got great flavour, it's very versatile in how you can use it and its good value for money. Did you know you can even pickle kamokamo? For all our eggplant lovers, the long purple ones are going to be available from Sunday. I can almost taste the ratatouille!

Strawberries are still picking well, it's so good that we pick right through until Easter! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Stephen

Pedros

Pedro will have as Special this Sunday a Chilli and garlic Mussel cooked in a Crayfish stock with a Tarragon sauce Empanada.on top of his 9 flavours of Empanadas.

Minghettis

This Sunday along with our usual production of Sourdough, Sunday's treat and cookies, we'll bring along Croissant and Pain Au Chocolate .

SharpAs Tool Tip

Years ago the main knife was like the ones in the photo. It was flexible, the clip point tip allowed detail work and it was thin. Along with a paring knife you could do most work in the kitchen. If you have garden ,woodwork, workshop tools, kitchen appliances, knives or other that need sharpening or fixing come and see me at the Marlborough Farmers' Market or contact me on 0274445535 cheers Ron

See you Sunday, 9 to noon, A&P showgrounds.
