MARKET NEWS #01 2023
Market Manager
Happy New Year to you!!!
We hope you had a lovely time over the holidays sharing good food with loved ones.
We’re resuming our usual Sunday morning 9 to noon market times from this Sunday.
A few weeks ago we welcomed Mahakipawa Farms to the market with new potatos and fresh farm eggs. Based in Linkwater, Amber, husband Jason and their family chose to grow two fresh seasonal varieties this year:
- Karakana - an all-purpose white fleshed potato suitable for mashing, roasting and chips.
- Desiree – pink skinned, creamy flesh, a little yellower and waxier than karakana, also all purpose.

These new potatoes are the freshest you can buy.

Amber and Jason decided to add potatoes as a sideline to their dairy farm business to help raise funds for their oldest son Issac who is heading to boarding school in Wellington on 30 January. Issac and his sister Katie not only help sell the potatoes every week, they are also involved in the whole growing process. “The kids got the paddock ready, planted, pick and help pack the potatoes,” says Amber.
The children also pick the eggs laid by hens which they raised from little chicks.
What’s the family’s favourite potato dish? Amber says that’s a hard one, “we’ve had them all sorts of ways, but we probably eat them mostly roasted. Roasted are our favourites”.

It’s back to work for many people – making Sunday morning an opportune time to finish the holidays with a relaxed spot of shopping while at the same time connecting with friends over a hot brew at the market. Why not get in touch with your besties to meet them at the A&P park this Sunday? Our busker is Daz Karaltlana, with his laidback grooves.
Who else will be attending?
We are expecting a full house of regular and seasonal stalls with the breadth and depth representing the local region. That means stone fruit, honey, nuts, fresh veggies, freshly baked breads, fresh mushrooms, treats, cheese, meat and more.
Cold pressed juice, hot chocolate and coffee at the ready along with yummy dishes prepared by our food trucks. Relax with brunch. Keep the dishes clean at home for another day.
Our website is updated on the Saturday with stalls attending the following day.
