Marlborough Farmers’ Market Waitangi Weekend…
It may be raining today but the weather forecast for Waitangi Weekend is all sunshine. Just perfect for enjoying brunch al fresco and shopping around the market stalls.
Enjoy your long weekend. Hope to see you this Sunday from nine til noon at the Marlborough Farmers’ Market
Last week I mentioned that it’s a great time of year for preserving. Many of our summer fruits are available to buy in bulk … strawberries, blueberries, apricots and tomatoes.
Having tried the most delicious tomato sauce at my friend’s house a few years ago I just had to have the recipe! Apparently it’s a traditional family sauce initially created by her Dad and it’s got a nice kick to it.
3kg ripe tomatoes
1litre of malt vinegar
1,1/2 tbsp mustard powder
1pkt pickling spice
1/2 cup salt
Boil all together for three hours, moulie then bring back to boil. Then bottle into hot sterile bottles.
I usually double this and then the supply lasts for a year.

Now it’s double the fun for kids at the Marlborough Farmers’ Market. We have a great range of colouring, dot to dots and a summer quiz to entertain children in our fun spot for young buds. Keep an eye out for more great activities being added to this area of the Market.
Watch out for great specials at the Market Stalls for Locavores. If you’d like to join our reward scheme sign up at the Information Stall. For just $35 you receive a Marlborough Farmers’ Market shopping bag, no eftpos withdrawal fees and great specials at the Market Stalls for the next year.
We want your feedback! To help us understand our customers and what they enjoy at a Farmers’ Market we’re conducting some Market Research this weekend. If you could spare a few minutes to answer our questionnaire before you leave the Market we’d be most appreciative.
Don’t miss our weekly Cooking Demonstration from 10.30am with local Chefs cooking their favourite recipes with Farmers’ Market seasonal produce. This week we look forward to watching Margaret from Traditional Country Preserves. She will be showcasing some sweet & savoury dishes using Blackcurrent and Raspberry sauce, you’re in for a treat!
