This weekend we welcome new stall holders in their entrepreneurial spirit, chef Fran shares his culinary skills in a cooking demo, and we talk to you about dogs – a dog event hosted at the A&P showgrounds, dog treats, and rules around dogs at the market.

Craft – French Pâté

This week we add another slice of France to the market. Ben and Anne have created Craft – French Pâté. They craft French Pâtés and Terrines alongside other small goods.

Benoit and Anne have been calling Nelson their adopted new home. They started to miss some authentic French flavours, so they decided to start their own adventure to bring a little bit of France to New Zealand.

Boom! Sauce, Spice and BBQ

The market spiced up a bit more last week thanks to local chef Fran Nolan, who is bringing some heat to the market with his Boom! spices and sauces.

His sauces are not just hot, but also flavoursome. His secret? He ferments his sauce, a bit like kimchi, so it’s not just tasty, but even good for you too.

This week Fran is also sharing recipes at Farmers Market cooking demo.

Why the name Boom?

“Boom! Because it’s Boomtown Blenheim. It’s a nickname for this town, and also ‘boom’ when you put a splash of hot sauce on your food you just go, “Boom!” Plus, it really worked with the retro design of the labels,” says Fran.

Dog agility competitions

Marlborough’s dog agility competitions will be held adjacent to the Marlborough Farmers’ Market this weekend.

Riverina owners Graham and Gill are involved. They say it’s a fantastic sport to watch and there will be teams from all over the country competing.

The competitions run from 8.30 am til mid to late afternoon both Saturday & Sunday.

Make sure you have a little bit of extra time to head over there after visiting the market. It will be great fun for kids of all ages.

Even though we love dogs, here’s a wee reminder to please keep your dog away from the market arena.

We’ve had a number of complaints. While we are not averse to dogs, it’s is also a food safety concern. Thank you.

 

Cooking demo

We welcome back chef Fran Nolan, new Marlborough Farmers’ Market stallholder of Boom! Sauce Spice BBQ, which made its debut last week.

This week Fran is going to showcase seafood. He will create yummy dishes with Green Lipped Mussels and Regal King Salmon, and no doubt his beautiful BOOM! sauces and spices.

Get ready to learn new easy-to-make, chef quality dishes. Gain new tips & techniques, feel free to ask questions and get the chance to taste & sample the finished dishes.

Where and when: At the market this Sunday 2nd December head over to the mobile kitchen (next to the busker’s gazebo) at 10:30am-11:00am for a cooking demo.

Snail House Bakery

Annette will be back this week with all her delicious, authentic European sourdough and baking favourites. She had a lovely sourdough baking class last Saturday. Eleven local ladies came to learn the craft and went home with super sourdough bread and new skills. Ask her about her next event.

Stop by at Long Acre Farm for fresh, free range pork cuts. Talk to Rick and Nairn about your meats for the Christmas table and those long anticipated relaxing summer BBQs. They are also taking orders for larger roast cuts for the family get together. Be quick as certain cuts sell fast.

Rick and Nairn are also bringing you bacon and egg roll and crispy bacon on top of eggy bread with maple syrup and banana from the Long Acre Farm Kitchen.

Mississippi Herbs and Edible Gardens

Mississippi Herbs and Edible Gardens combine forces to bring you the best variety of herb and veggie plants – large and small, singles or 6 packs. Look out for chillies, eggplants, just a few more tomatoes, plus a range of bee friendly herbs. Ready-to-eat items this week: salad mix, microgreen packs, asparagus, broad beans and sugar snap peas.
