Despite the wet gumboot week, we had a fabulous turnout at the market last week. This Sunday, the skies are looking brighter. Come along and join us for your weekly grocery shop, a catch up with friends, and a bite to eat from Feast Merchants and our other hot food stalls.

It is amazing how much fresh choice we have even at this time of the year. The eggs of course are always a hit. It’s the time for apples, pears and kiwifruit also.

We have an array of root veggies, but also fresh greens and finally, now even coriander! Lemons are in season, which go well on just about anything, and don’t forget the fresh, Cook Straight caught fish, free range pork and Tempeh to complete your meals.

We are in the final week of #PlasticFreeJuly, so, fittingly, the recipe this week is to make your own All-Purpose Cleaner without the packaging and chemicals.

This week coming at the Marlborough Farmers market will be the last week for our delicious Winter Cole Pears.

We will continue to have a wide range of apples – Royal Gala, Fuji, Sturmer, Granny Smith, Pac Beauty, Splendour, Pac Queen and Braeburn as well as delicious tasting Green Kiwifruit as well as our 3 types of Juice – Apple & Boysenberry, Sturmer and Pink Lady.

Pedros Empanadas

Stop by Pedros in his flash new caravan for limited time large Empanadas. Spicy Beef, Venison and Chicken $3 each or two for $5.oo.

Judith and Colin are back with proteas, ornamental kale and lemons.

This week Marco is again baking with colours with his Beetroot Sourdough. Also, have you tried the Fruit Loaf and the Butter Pudding?

Snailhouse Bakery

Annette will be coming to market with lovely Germanic style rye sourdough and your other favourites, like sprouted super grain bread adventure and cinnamon scrolls, fougasse with walnuts and a cake or two.

Koromiko Free Range Eggs

Now that’s a jumbo sized egg! These are only available at the Marlborough Farmers Market, and you will need to be in quick because these are always popular and in limited supply.

Home to local artisan producers to complete your shopping spree.

Marlborough Black Garlic, Olives in Brine, cold pressed olive oil, Marlborough Sea Salt are just some of the artisan products available here. New is Love Thy Curry. Now you can get your favourite spice mixes for flavoursome winter curries, that the whole family will enjoy right here at the market.

Your spray free winter greens are also here : Nutrient dense NZ Spinach, crisp and juicy Miners’ lettuce, colourful Swiss Chard, and Chickweed. Great for winter stews, salads and smoothies.

Did you know, New Zealand Spinach is a rich source of beta-carotene, which benefits eyesight. Beta-carotene can be converted to vitamin A. This can prevent people from suffering from vitamin A deficiency, itching eyes, eye ulcers, and dry eyes.

Recipe

#PlasticFreeJuly Recipe of the week: Make your own All-Purpose Cleaner.

Ingredients
Water
1/2 cup white vinegar
2 Tbsp baking soda
10 drops lavender essential oil (for its disinfectant properties) from the Community Stall


Method
Mix the vinegar, essential oils and a little water before adding baking soda in a clean spray bottle (glass is best). Then fill to top with water. 
Gently shake to mix ingredients, and then spray, wipe with a cloth, and allow it to dry.
