MARKET NEWS #15 2023

Market Manager

Half way through the year we are.

Last Sunday we had a wee shuffle around to keep your feet dry, meeting in the sheep pens. Whether we will be inside or out this Sunday will yet to be seen. It will be what’s best for the ground and for us humans, stallholders and customers alike.

A trip to the market could sort out your Sunday lunch with our food trucks and keep the weekly fruit and veggie bill reasonable. Lowes have a mad special on two crisp 'n' sweet apple varieties for only $2kg. Crazy prices.

Welcome to Caitlin who loves decorating cakes

Marlborough Farmers Market news 2022

Hello, I’m Caitlin, owner of Caked by Caitlin. My passion for cake decorating started in February last year when I made my very first cake for my partners birthday. It then went on to family, extended family and friends. I decided to create social media pages showing what I can create and that’s when things took off.

My main job is actually a Registered Nurse up at Wairau Hospital where I do 32 hours a week and then caking in my spare time.

I am absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to set up a stall at the market as it’s such a great way to meet so many new lovely people and to expose my goodies to a wider demographic. I look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks.

Caitlin will be at the market every second weekend.

What else is happening?

This Sunday's busker is Daz Karaltlana, playing popular covers.

Golden Mile Produce

It has been another BIG week at Golden Mile Produce. We are planting the last of our strawberry plants which is always a relief and excitement.

Other big news is this week at the market we will have more lettuce and salad greens, along with the fabulous Shanghai pak choi. Nothing like some fresh green crunch to liven things up in the depths of winter!

What is the difference between Shanghai, Joy Choi and Tatsoi? Ask Stephen this Sunday at the Golden Mile Produce stall.

SharpAs Tool Tip

Sheep shears

No matter the condition, these can usually be renovated back to a quality tool. Old sheep shears have a brand name on them. This indicates high quality steel, necessary because they needed to be able to hold a good cutting edge to shear sheep.

In recent times many I sharpen are used in the garden. If you have these or any other garden tools, workshop tools, kitchen utensils, scissors or other come and see me at the market.

cheers Ron

Community Stall

One of the delicious winter salads is the miners lettuce. It's juicy, full of nutrients and the lovely leaves pair well with a French dressing, freshly cracked walnuts, slices of pears and some feta.

Along with the eftpos, local oils and dressings we'll have miners lettuce, Swiss Chard, New Zealand spinach and walnuts for you this Sunday.
