Parents of littlies, as part of the Day of the Child, or National Children’s Day this Sunday, the Marlborough Farmers Market is hosting Marlborough Playcentre Cluster. They will bring gloop and playdough for kids to play with. They also plan other fun children’s activities on site.

We are also joined by international folk duo Good Habits. The singer-cellist and accordion playing duo are currently touring across New Zealand and will perform for us from 9am-12noon. Click the link to watch a recent live video.

So come on down with your family and join in the activities, get your fresh groceries direct from the farmer, graze on a brunch, have a gelato, and enjoy the activities.

News from our stall holders

Snailhouse bakery

We have delicious slow fermented sourdough from the Snail House Bakery, super grain loaves, adventure bread, crackers and your favourites like Brezeln and bread sticks. Also the original Austrian apple strudel and Annette’s yummy cherry pie will be back. The famous chocolate rich Sacher Torte filled with apricot jam hit a spot last time and will be back as well.

Sharp As

An interesting selection of Hunting, survival and pocketknives were brought in to be sharpened last week. The owner was finding it difficult to get an edge. Sometimes even from new, blades need thinning down to get a good cutting edge. If you have blunt knives and tools bring them to Ron from SharpAs.

Homemade Kiwi

Alys will have a selection of four homemade health and energy bars on sale next to SharpAs. A very popular bar is the Hemp Health bar. Vegan, sugar free, and gluten free, it tastes great as well.

Alys uses hemp protein powder, rather than hemp flour, found in a lot of hemp bars. This is an important difference. She explains: “The protein is the content that gives a good source of Magnesium, is a natural pain relief {good for arthritis), with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid that help reduce bad cholesterol while maintaining good cholesterol, and fibre good for digestion.” Homemade Kiwi hemp bars also contain dates that help to reduce blood pressure, maintain bone mass and peanut butter which contains potassium . All this in one simple bar.

Come and taste them, ask Alys for a sample to try these amazing bars.

Traditional Country Preserves

Margaret has all her black Doris plum products back in stock including the Gold medal sugar free Black Doris Plum Conserve. She hopes to also have the Red Tamarillo chutney back.

It’s the height of the season for picking and pre-processing plums, strawberries, apricots for freezing, keeping Margaret busy during the week.

Pedros Empanadas

For all the Gluten Free people, Pedro will have 5 flavours of gluten free empanadas this Sunday.

Pea shoot Microgreens are baby pea shoots that include an astonishing source of antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, phytonutrients, and vitamins. They help alkalise your body, support your immune system, and ensure proper cell regeneration.

Try them in the mild or spicy microgreen mix available at the market this Sunday.
